An 80-year-old man was taken to the hospital with burns after a fire spread to a home Tuesday afternoon in Clovis.

Fire crews responded to the fire at 2:31 p.m. in the 5400 block of Marjan Avenue in Clovis for reports of a grass fire in the area.

Cal Fire/Fresno County Fire spokesman Dan Urias said the fire immediately threatened a residential structure, prompting the two-alarm response.

One home was destroyed, and the injured man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office in an update Wednesday said the victim remained hospitalized with burns to his lower body.

“As of now, he is stabilized and able to talk,” sheriff’s office spokesman Tony Botti said in an email.

Urias said 30 personnel were involved, with nine engines, four water tenders, one chief officer, one breathing support and two safety officers at the scene.
