Four Fresno residents killed in fiery head-on crash identified by Madera coroner

It took nearly two weeks for investigators to identify the four victims of a head-on crash because their bodies burned after the collision, according to the Madera County Coroner’s Office.

The two cars struck head-on just before midnight April 8 on Highway 41 near Highway 145, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The coroner’s office on Thursday identified all four as Fresno residents: Destiny Salinas, 16; Danielle Mesta, 33; Edgar Garza Jr., 28; and Jovonie Gonzales, 30.

On the day following the crash, CHP officers described the cars involved as a four-door black Honda Accord and possibly a two-door Scion tC.

There were two people in each car, but CHP could not say Thursday who was driving and who were passengers,

The impact of the collision caused the vehicles to catch on fire.

The officer investigating the crash is out on injury leave, according to CHP, and many of the details remain murky.
