Four people killed in fiery head-on crash on Highway 41. Witnesses describe scene
Four people were killed in a fiery head-on crash Friday night in Madera County.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Taka Hiura said the collision happened shortly before midnight on Highway 41 near Highway 145.
Witnesses told officers that they saw people pinned in the vehicles. Officers found four people dead, two in each vehicle, described to be a four-door black Honda Accord and possibly a two-door Scion tC, Hiura said.
The impact of the collision caused the vehicles to catch on fire.
“Everything is under investigation,” Hiura said. “But we don’t know which vehicle was traveling southbound and which was traveling northbound and alcohol and drug use is unknown at this time.”
CHP re-routed traffic as debris was on the roadway. The roadway was closed for several hours.
