One dead in two-vehicle crash at intersection near Fresno. One had right of way, CHP says

A man died Friday morning following a rollover crash on Fowler and Lincoln avenues in Fresno County.

Eight others were injured.

The man was one of seven passengers in a van traveling east on Lincoln Avenue just after 6:30 a.m., when it was struck by an SUV traveling south on Fowler Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

UPDATE: Victim identified by coroner’s office

The CHP believes the van stopped at Lincoln before proceeding into the intersection and being hit.

The SUV had the right of way on Fowler, the CHP reported.

The man who died was thrown from, and ultimately crushed, by the van as it rolled over during the crash. He died at the scene, the CHP said.

The remaining passengers, along with a passenger inside the SUV, were taken to the hospital with minor injures or reports of pain.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash but does not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor.
