Family of four escapes fire at Fresno home, but will be displaced by damage to house

A family of four escaped a fire that damaged their home on Thursday.

The Fresno Fire Department said the family was in the backyard of the home, on Grant Avenue near Cedar and Belmont, when the fire started about 10:30 a.m. and were able to quickly get to safety.

The fire fully charred the back part of the house, including an enclosed patio. It also got into the attic of the home, and forced firefighters to pull down parts of the ceiling.

The family will be displaced, according to Jonathan Lopez of the Fresno Fire Department.

More than 20 firefighters responded to the blaze. The cause is under investigation, Lopez said.

Traffic was blocked on Grant between 11th Street and Cedar Avenue while firefighters battled the flames.
