Fire burns at Fresno packaging company. What caused plume of smoke seen for miles
A fire at a southeast Fresno packaging company created a large plume of smoke Sunday evening.
Around 5 p.m., Fresno Fire Department received reports of a grass fire near the packaging company in the area of Golden State Boulevard and Orange Avenue, according to Battalion Chief Thomas Cope.
The fire had spread to several wooden crates and a truck at the packaging company by the time crews arrived. Additional fire engines were called due to the high volume of smoke that could be seen from miles across town.
Crews quickly got the fire under control before it could spread to the building on the packaging company property. Cope said the high volume of smoke was caused by plastic on the crates burning in the fire.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
