He saved the life of a newborn. Now he’s clinging to life. Fresno family seeks help
The family of a man who was injured in a collision with a suspected drunk driver Tuesday is asking for help as he remains hospitalized with major injuries.
Two years ago, the victim, Aurelio Fuentes Jr. , was saluted as a hero after he rescued a newborn girl who was left in the middle of the roadway in the Madera Ranchos. At the time, Fuentes was delivering copies of The Fresno Bee.
In the Tuesday incident, Fresno Police reported that Fuentes, now 23 and a contracted Amazon employee, was driving near East Florence and South Cedar avenues when he was hit by a black Kia sedan driven by a man identified as Israel Douglas. Douglas, 23, remained in Fresno County Jail on Thanksgiving morning on charges including felony driving under the influence and driving while unlicensed.
In a GoFundMe page, Rosa Avila said that Fuentes is suffering from severe head trauma, a broken leg, broken ribs and internal bleeding and is in critical condition. She asked for assistance paying for his medical expenses and treatment.
