Oakland man ID’d as driver killed in head-on Madera County crash that injured woman, kids
The Madera County sheriff-coroner Monday said the driver who died in a head-on collision on Avenue 12 at Road 37 1/2 Sunday was Walter Cleven Jr., 50, of Oakland.
The crash happened just after midnight. CHP officer Greg Rodriguez said authorities initially received a report of a wrong-way driver on Avenue 12. Officers located the crash about 12:18 a.m. and reported that Cleven’s RAV4 slammed into a BMW that was westbound.
Three children and a woman in the BMW were injured. The children were sent to Valley Children’s Hospital and the woman was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
