A motorcyclist died Saturday evening after crashing into a concrete fence post east of Clovis, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The motorcyclist was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Alexander Cameron, 24, of Clovis.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. on Academy Avenue just north of Shaw Avenue. Officers said Cameron was riding his Honda motorcycle on southbound Academy and approaching Shaw at a high rate of speed when the bike veered off the roadway onto the west shoulder.

Cameron was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, CHP said, but Cameron did not have a valid motorcycle license. He was wearing a helmet.

The investigation is ongoing.
