Two bicyclist were critically injured Tuesday when they were hit by a Honda Civic on Millerton Road northeast of Fresno, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. in the town of Friant.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas said the two bicyclists were leaving town eastbound on Millerton Road, east of North Fork Road, while the woman driving the 1998 Honda Civic with three adult male passengers was westbound on Millerton Road at an unknown rate of speed.

Salas said for an undetermined reason, the Honda drifted right onto the gravel shoulder and overcorrected to the left across the eastbound lane, striking the two bike riders.

The bicyclists were transported to Community Regional Medical Center.

Both bike riders were wearing helmets and are expected to survive, Salas said.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a factor, Salas said.
