  • Fresno-Clovis expects a wave of restaurant and bar openings throughout 2026.
  • Mix of local concepts and national chains will expand menus and footprints.
  • Developers list specific addresses and timelines; many openings slated in 2026.

Plenty of restaurants and bars closed in 2025 in the Fresno-Clovis area, but lots of openings are on tap for 2026.

An almost even mix of local mom-and-pop eateries and chains are slated to open in the area this year.

Most of the chains are familiar to diners — another Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Ono Hawaiian BBQ — though several are moving into Clovis for the first time.

But the local dining scene is where things get new and different. We’ll see brand-new bars — including one downtown in a remodeled historic home — along with a distillery and cocktail lounge up north.

And some favorite spots will open second locations, including Phoenician Garden and Zaatar Bistro.

As always, The Fresno Bee will update you as these places open. Feel free to check out the rest of our local restaurant coverage and sign up for our weekly Eat, Drink & Bee Entertained newsletter.

In the meantime, here’s what to look forward to this year.

Kuppa Joy is planning at least two new locations in Fresno and Clovis this year. The first is a “Joy Thru,” its term for a drive-thru, at the southeast corner of Belmont and Fowler avenues. But unlike its other Joy Thrus, it will have a small indoor area, a “self-order, quick-app type, in-and-out, more on-the-go type of coffee model,” said founder Zack Follett in a voicemail from a coffee trip to Guatamala.

It’s expected to be open in about four or five months, said Marty Beal of Beal Developments, which owns and is developing the property. An unnamed restaurant is also expected to go into the building.

Another Kuppa Joy is headed to the new center near Highway 168 and Temperance Avenue with Chipotle. This one will be a 1,600-square-foot cafe. It’s expected to open this fall, according to the developer.

El Mercado Marketplace at Loma Vista will be home to several eateries by the end of the year, according to President and CEO Jay Virk of the Bottom Line Group. The company is developing the first phase of the 15-acre center north of the Starbucks at the northwest corner of Shaw and Leonard avenues.

The company is negotiating with tenants and expects to have several open by the end of the year, including a ramen restaurant, a matcha cafe and an ice cream shop, along with a couple of drive-through eateries, he said.

Metro Crust Italian Pizza is headed for Shaw and Hayes avenues in a new construction behind the Johnny Quick and should open later this year, according to the developer.

Phoenician Express, a second location of Phoenician Garden, is aiming to open in spring or summer at a new strip center at Highway 168 and Temperance Avenue, just north of Owens Mountain Parkway. It will be a quick-service version of the original at Herndon Avenue and First Street, with a smaller menu and less seating.

Desi Pizza Bites is coming soon to 5235 Cesar Chavez Blvd., the former home of Golden Dragon Oriental Cuisine, across from Sunnyside High School. The restaurant, with locations in Tulare and Modesto, is a pizza shop serving both American and Indian pizzas. It also has kebabs, sandwiches, wings and fries on the menu.

Teriyaki Madness has two locations coming this year. The one at 1916 E. Copper Ave., suite 104, near Maple Avenue, is hiring. It’s expected to open in late February or early March, according to the company. Another is slated for 4655 E. Jensen Ave., near Maple Avenue, and is expected to open in late fall.

A Yemeni restaurant is in the works for the space that Noodle Q Home Style Fresh Noodles left behind when it closed at an Ashlan Avenue shopping center just east of Fresno Street.

Zaatar Downtown plans to take over the former George’s Shish Kebab in the Galleria at Civic Center Square in downtown Fresno, aiming to open by the end of January. Unlike its north Fresno location, it will be open only for weekday lunches and have a more traditional Mediterranean menu, including shawarma, fattoush salads, kebabs, falafel and more.
