Jimy Wen’s Chinese restaurant has lots to celebrate.

The longtime Fresno Chinese restaurant is reopen after about six months of being closed. It’s planning a grand re-opening celebration Feb. 9, timed to coincide with the Lunar New Year.

They will welcome the Chinese new year and the Year of the Dragon, and the return of one of the owners who is recovering from a car crash. The restaurant also has new owners — but familiar faces remain.

The family — Jimy and Karen Wen and their daughter Hana — were on their way to the restaurant in April at Herndon and Cedar avenues when they got in a car crash.

Jimy and Hana were OK, but Karen was injured. She’s doing better, but it took some time to recover, including a stay at a rehabilitation hospital. A GoFundMe fundraising account raised more than $12,000 to help with bills and reopening the restaurant.

The family could not immediately be reached to comment.

Jimy Wen’s restaurant quietly reopened in early November.

But now it’s going big. The celebration starts at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9. There will be some special items on the menu to celebrate.

And there are new owners to meet. The Wens were considering retiring even before the crash and have sold their ownership interest to a younger family, they said in a Facebook post.

The Wens will stay on indefinitely as advisors.

“We believe this younger couple is up to the task,” the post said. “In the weeks ahead, we will be introducing them to all of our incredible guests, friends, family, and the entire Fresno area, leading up to a ‘Grand Reopening’ celebration.”
