Drive-thru coffee shop The Human Bean is planning to open two locations in town – one each in Fresno and Clovis.

In Clovis, the little building is up, but it’s not open yet. It’s at the southwest corner of Shaw and Fowler avenues, just west of the Walgreens.

It has a drive-thru and a walk-up window, but no indoor seating.

The owner is shooting for a March opening.

Another Human Bean location is headed for central Fresno. Plans call for a new coffee shop to be built at Gettsyburg Avenue and First Street in front of Fresno Ag Hardware.

That coffee shop is still in the permitting stage and awaiting approvals from the City of Fresno. Franchise owner Pat Mitchell said he hopes it will open this year.

The Human Bean is an Oregon-based company with about 300 locations open or soon to be open in 25 states.

Many locations are franchises, including the two locations in Visalia and one in Tulare. Two more are in the works for Porterville.

The owner of the Fresno and Clovis locations also owns locations in Atascadero, Templeton and Morro Bay. He is planning additional locations in Santa Maria and Lompoc.

The menu

The Human Bean specializes in coffee, with lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, energy drinks, smoothies and tea.

It has house specialty drinks like a chocolate macadamia nut breve made with cream and espresso. There’s also a Mexi Mocha, a spicy Mexican hot chocolate with milk and espresso.

Each drink is topped with a chocolate-covered coffee bean.

The Human Bean is the latest in a mini coffee boom in the Fresno area.

Two new Dutch Bros Coffee locations have opened recently, with more on the way.

Peet’s Coffee recently opened its counter inside The Post in northwest Fresno. The Clash Coffee Boba truck recently opened at Shaw and Blackstone avenues, and Yemeni coffee shop Bab Al-Yemen Cafe is on Shaw Avenue near Marks Avenue.
