Who has the best chicken sandwich in Fresno? See who Bee readers voted as the winner
We have a winner.
The Bee polled readers this week about who they thought had the best chicken sandwich in town, whether from a chain or a mom-and-pop restaurant.
See, with eight new chicken restaurants and food trucks opening, Fresno seems a little chicken-obsessed lately (and last week we shared a story about why).
But back to the winner: It’s The Chicken Shack.
And it was a landslide, with the company that got its start in Hanford nabbing 48% of the vote.
The Chicken Shack’s sandwich features its chicken fingers on a brioche bun from Max’s Bakery with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and your choice of sauce, either tossed with the fingers or on the side.
Chicken Shack is also gearing up to unveil another chicken sandwich in the next few weeks: Fred’s Nashville hot waffle chicken slider.
Fred is the restaurant’s sunglasses-wearing mascot. The sandwich has the spiced-up Nashville chicken between waffles instead of a bun.
FURY Hot Chicken
But also check out the No. 2 winner, with 35% of the vote: FURY Hot Chicken.
This is a new food truck specializing in Nashville hot chicken who we told you about in a recent story.
Tied for third place were two more newcomers in that story: Spicy Birdz and Pacific Fried Chicken Company.
It’s also worth noting that Fresnans rejected chains in favor of its locally owned spots in this non-scientific poll. Popeye’s and Chick-fil-A both got 1% of the vote and the other chains didn’t even get a full percent of the vote.
Our poll also had a write-in category that produced some restaurants you may not have associated with chicken sandwiches. They include Heirloom, Libelula, Westwoods BBQ, Dervo’s Deli (who we told you about in a recent story, including its special fried chicken sandwich with jack cheese and a kale slaw) and Rocket Dog.
