These 14 new restaurants are coming to this part of Fresno. From Indian food to ramen
Northwest Fresno is getting a big influx of new restaurants.
From Indian food and boba tea to barbecue, the restaurants range from big chains to locally-owned restaurants. A wave of openings will happen over the next few months.
Several restaurants are inside the newly-built section of the shopping center at Highway 99 and Herndon Avenue, the Marketplace at El Paseo.
But not all of them. Plenty of other intersections are seeing new construction and new restaurants coming in. Here’s a look at who is coming and where.
New restaurants coming
The Habit Burger building is almost finished in the same shopping center as Tractor Supply Co. at Herndon and Brawley avenues. The company is keeping mum about an opening date, but a sign on the building says it should be soon.
West Coast Sourdough has signed a lease to open a location in that same center near Dutch Bros Coffee, according to Retail California’s report to The Bee’s leases section.
It’s a sandwich shop specializing in sourdough bread that opened its first location in May on West Shaw Avenue. More locations are planned for Clovis and Visalia. The Herndon and Brawley location is in the very beginning stages, so it could be several months before this one opens.
Peet’s Coffee is still in the works inside The Post. Formerly the Bullard Pharmacy at Bullard and West avenues, the store will eventually be home to a mini Peet’s coffee shop.
It was originally supposed to open earlier this year, but the store ran into some delays, according to management. They still plan to open, it’s just not clear when yet.
Ono Hawaiian BBQ is taking over the former Del Taco at Shaw and Brawley avenues. The company did not share an opening date.
MilkT Society, a boba tea shop, is taking over the former Starbucks on West Shaw Avenue at Feland Avenue. It already has a shop open at Cedar and Nees avenues and three more are coming to the area.
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is planning to open a location inside a newly-built convenience store and 76 gas station just north of Herndon Avenue, across the street from the Marketplace at El Paseo shopping center.
It should have the full menu and is waiting on a gas line hookup before open, which could take weeks or a month, according to store management.
Neighbors may remember that there used to be another Dickey’s across the street in the Marketplace at El Paseo. That restaurant closed months ago.
Domino’s pizza has signed a lease to open a location at the southwest corner of Bullard and Marks, according to leases reported to The Bee.
The Marketplace at El Paseo
Many of the new restaurants coming to northwest Fresno are part of the latest stage of construction at the Marketplace at El Paseo, the shopping center with Target near Herndon Avenue and Highway 99.
The movie theater is open, along with the first Wayback Burgers in town and the Crave Cookie drive-thru and store. A slew of new buildings are built, with businesses beginning to work on the insides. It could take several weeks or months before the interiors of the buildings are finished and the businesses are ready to open.
Here’s a look at who’s moving in.
Fire Wings has its signs up and appears close to opening in one of the outbuildings close to Riverside Drive.
The restaurant specializes in chicken wings in over 20 flavors, from original barbecue to the spicy “Korean kick.” It also serves chicken tenders, sandwiches and salads.
The company has dozens of restaurants across California, mostly in the Los Angeles area and northern California.
King Indian Restaurant is moving into one of the outbuildings near Riverside Drive. Its menu includes all kinds of chicken, veggie and goat dishes, including the rice dish biryani and naan stuffed with chicken, or onion and herbs.
Daphne’s is a Mediterranean restaurant with more than a dozen locations in Southern California. It’s opening in the northern part of the shopping center, near McDonald’s and Panda Express.
Its menu includes kebabs, pita sandwiches, salads and vegetarian options.
Round Table Pizza is opening a restaurant in the shopping center and is in the process of applying for a liquor license.
Rare Tea Company is opening in the space left behind when Dickey’s Barbecue Pit closed, in one of the buildings near Riverside Drive.
It’s a boba tea place started in the Bay Area with a location in Clovis.
It specializes in “authentic” tea flavors, but also serves traditional milk teas and fruity options, like the strawberry snow cream made with tea and fresh strawberries.
Ramen Hayashi is slated to open next spring in the shopping center near the theater. The spot was originally meant to be another location of Hino Oishi, but the owners decided to downsize and change it to a ramen restaurant, said owner Jason Lin.
Ramen Hayashi has a location in Clovis that opened last year. It, along with Hino Oishi, J Pot Mini Hot Pot & Bar, Spicy J’s, and Lin’s Fusion, are owned by members of the same family.
Chicken Shack has signed a lease to open in the shopping center too, according to Colliers International.
