Derek Carr goes high again predicting Raiders teammate Khalil Mack’s sack total for 2017
Before the 2016 NFL season, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr made a bold prediction: Teammate Khalil Mack would record 30 sacks.
The pass rusher didn’t pick up 30 sacks but he did record 11 for a career total 30 sacks – en route to being named Defensive Player of the Year last season.
What is Carr predicting for the 2017 season for Mack?
“I’m still sticking with my 30 number,” Carr said on “Mad Dog Sports Radio” with Adam Schein on Wednesday. “Because we know this is going to blow up, I’m gonna say 30. That’s if he doesn’t get held … if they start calling the holdings, if they start calling them like they should – I’m saying 30.”
How bold is Carr’s prediction? The NFL record is 22.5 sacks by Michael Strahan in 2001. Only 10 players have recorded 20 sacks in a single season.
Carr on training camp – The Raiders veterans report to training camp in Napa on July 28.
“I can’t wait to report to camp,” Carr said. “The fire that’s burning inside of me to get back out on the field … to show people that it wasn’t just one season, it wasn’t just one fluke thing. We’re here to stay. And this culture that we’ve built here in Oakland, it’s something that’s going to last. It fires me up to want to get back out there and show what we can do.”
