SoCal volleyball champions! Clovis boys knock off top seed in four-set final
The Clovis High boys volleyball team introduced a little drama Saturday afternoon, but in the end it was worth it.
Trailing 24-23 while hoping to avoid being pushed to a decisive fifth set, the second-seeded Cougars reeled off three straight points and beat No. 1 Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks 25-17, 25-19, 22-25, 26-24 to win the Southern California Division II title in Huntington Beach.
Clovis clinched it on a kill by senior outside hitter Akash Dhothar.

The Cougars join the 2011 Buchanan team (D-I) as the section’s only SoCal boys volleyball champions. There is no state championship match in the sport, so they finish 31-8.
Clovis’ run included wins over No. 7 Bishop Montgomery-Torrance (25-10, 25-15, 25-18) and No. 3 Calabasas (25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-11).
