The Clovis High boys volleyball team and Fresno Christian golfer Michael Cliff are still playing as the spring sports season winds down.

The Cougars, who advanced to the Southern California Regional Division II eight-team tournament after falling to Buchanan in the Central Section final, will play for the SoCal crown Saturday night. Second-seeded Clovis knocked off No. 3 Calabasas in five sets Thursday night. Next up: The Cougars meet No. 1 Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks at 3 p.m. Saturday in Huntington Beach. Clovis is looking to join the 2011 Buchanan team (D-I) as the section’s only SoCal boys volleyball champions.

Thursday in Pasadena, Cliff made good on his fourth trip to the SoCals, finishing birdie-eagle for 71 to qualify for the State Championship on May 31 at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach.

Cliff was the lone qualifier from the Central Section. This follows a runner-up finish in the North Area Championship and missing the three-way playoff for the Section Championship by one shot.

Cliff is committed to Fresno State for the 2017-18 season.

Friday, the Central Section-champion Clovis North boys tennis team was eliminated with a 7-0 loss to Harvard-Westlake-Los Angeles in the first round of the SoCal team championship.
