What Derek Carr and Davante Adams said after a walk-off win in OT over Broncos
Davante Adams gave plenty of credit to Foster Moreau.
Why? Derek Carr connected with Moreau on a 33-yard pass completion down the middle to the Broncos 35-yard line that set up a dramatic victory.
Next play: Game over. Carr to Adams for 35 yards.
Final score: Raiders 22, Broncos 16.
“Huge,” Adams said of Moreau’s reception. “That set it up. They’ll talk about the last play and stuff like that. Big-time playmaking is contagious. We talk about that all the time. Getting that spark and getting it going because we had plenty of opportunities throughout the game and we didn’t hit the big home run every time.
“When I see that, that fires me up. Great call and (Raiders coach Josh McDaniels) was communicating on the sideline about, ‘What is the best concept or way to run the route to have success and be open?’ That’s what we need: great communication between players, coaching staff and everybody and just execute it.”
It was a relief for the Raiders, as they snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 3-7. They are 1-5 on the road and 1-6 in one-score games.
The Raiders got the game to overtime after Carr led the Raiders down the field to set up a Daniel Carlson 25-yard field goal.
Carr is now 8-2 in his career in overtime games — the best wining percentage (.800) by a quarterback with 10-plus overtime games in their career, according to NFL Research.
Carr, too, gave credit to Moreau.
“All he was thinking about was about the team,” Carr said. “That’s Raider football right there. That’s the kind of stuff we’re trying to push and that’s the kind of mentality ... that sure, maybe try to stiff-arm. He said, ‘No, I’m going to do my best to take care of this situation and take care of the team. It’s really impressive. That was a huge, huge play. The window that he found so I can throw it to him was unbelievable.
McDaniels delivered a message to Carr prior to the game-tying field goal in regulation.
Message received as Carr marched the Raiders into position for the Carlson kick with 16 seconds remaining.
“He asked me before the drive, ‘What are you thinking specifically?’” McDaniel recounted. “I said, ‘We need, probably, two chunk plays, to give Daniel a chance.’ I said, ‘Don’t be careless with the ball. We don’t need to panic or hurry. We have a lot of time left.’ When they threw that incompletion, it gave us another 40 seconds. We didn’t have to rush as much as we probably had to if it was under a minute.
“He went out there and was poised on the first play and threw it to JJ (Josh Jacobs) on the sideline and hit Keelan (Cole) on the in-cut. He trusts the play. He’s not trying to force it to one guy. I thought he played with great poise and took care of the ball.”
