When could the NFL announce a decision on incident involving Raiders’ Davante Adams?
The NFL on Tuesday continued to investigate the incident involving Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams and a photographer after Monday’s game.
The Raiders had just lost 30-29 to the Chiefs when cameras showed Adams walking to the locker room and shoving a photographer who appeared to walk, possibly inadvertently, into the player’s path. A security guard helped the man to his feet.
The NFL is taking a look at the incident and there is no timetable when the league will announce what, if any, punishment Adams could be facing, a source told The Bee.
The Raiders have a bye this week.
The man filed a police report and went to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. On Wednesday, Adams was charged with misdemeanor assault.
Police said Adams allegedly pushed Ryan Zebley “to the ground using two hands causing whiplash and headache and a possible minor concussion.”
The charge was filed in Kansas City Municipal Court.
After the game, Adams sent out an apology to the man on Twitter and in the locker room.
“There was some guy running off the field and he ran and jumped in front of me,” Adams said. “We were coming off the field and I bumped into him and kind of pushed him, and he ended up on the ground. I would like to say I’m sorry to him for that. That was just frustration mixed with running and literally running in front of me. I shouldn’t have responded that way but that’s how I, initially, responded so I want to apologize to him for that.”
Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said on Tuesday that he’s spoken to Adams about the incident and fully supports “wholeheartedly” his star player.
“Yeah, I don’t know that, in terms of what may or may not come,” McDaniels said. “I’m aware of what I’m aware of at this point, which honestly isn’t too much. I mean, I know what happened and those kinds of things. He’s a great guy. I know that was an unfortunate situation. We obviously don’t want any of our guys to be doing anything like that. He knows that. He’s very well aware of that. But I know the person, I don’t think there was any intent behind it on his part. But whatever they ask of us, whatever they need from us, obviously we will comply. I’m not sure exactly where we’re at, at this moment, but we’re kind of wait and see at this point.”
Adams will be at the Fresno State game Saturday as he will have his jersey retired next to Derek Carr at Valley Children’s Stadium.
