Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is “disgusted” and “broken hearted” following the killing of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died Monday when an officer placed his knee on his neck after his arrest in Minneapolis.

Carr posted his thoughts on his social media platforms Friday to share his feelings saying “anytime someone loses their life it’s a terrible thing especially when it could’ve been prevented.”

Other athletes shared their displeasure this week such as LeBron James, Steph Curry, J.J. Watt and Colin Kaepernick.

Four Minneapolis police officers were fired after Floyd’s death, which sparked protests in the city and made national news.

In graphic videos posted to social media, Floyd is heard telling the officers, “I cannot breathe.”

Derek Chauvin, the officer who pinned down Floyd with a knee to his neck, was taken into custody Friday and faces charges of third-degree murder and manslaughter, officials announced.

Carr expressed his concern and hopes for unity.

“I was raised to love everyone no matter their gender, skin color, political beliefs, socioeconomic background, or religious beliefs,” Carr wrote. “I was taught that ALL life has purpose and that we are all created equal by a loving God. This is exactly how my children are and will be raised as well. I pray that anyone who reads this will do the same for their families. The division and hate has to end.

“My hope is that our country would someday be the place other nations look to for unity.”
