For three seasons, Derek Carr and Michael Crabtree were Oakland Raiders teammates.

The chemistry was there and it showed in the stat book when Crabtree caught 25 touchdowns from Carr to go along with at least 2,500 receiving yards.

But the Raiders released Crabtree in March and he later signed with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Raiders and Ravens meet on Sunday in Baltimore and it will be reunion time for Carr and Crabtree.

“He helped me so much talking scheme, talking the mindset, the leadership, all of those things,” Carr said Wednesday. “I remember standing around the corner in the hallway begging him not to leave. I promise I’ll throw you the ball, I said. He had two or three of his best, statistically, years of his career.”

Carr described Crabtree as “one of the most competitive people I’ve ever been around.”

And it showed on and off the field as Carr added “I think the world of him. I miss him, I do. I wish him the best.”

Carr said he checks on Crabtree to see how he’s doing. The two probably had one of their most memorable moments when Crabtree caught the game-winning touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs (31-30) last season in Oakland.

“The little one in the front of the end zone,” Carr recalled. “That one right there, he hugged me, I hugged him, all I remember him saying is ‘I hope it counts’ because we played about seven untimed downs that time.

“I think that every quarterback that has played with him will definitely say he has some of the best hands and is one of the most competitive and reliable people. I have nothing but good things to say.”

Holton promoted — Wide receiver Johnny Holton was promoted to the 53-man roster. Holton, who was on the Raiders’ practice squad as a wide receiver/cornerback, had three touchdown receptions last season.
