Raiders’ Derek Carr is going to his third Pro Bowl. He says there’s more to accomplish

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is headed to a third straight Pro Bowl.

The former Fresno State standout originally was an alternate for the Pro Bowl. He replaces New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, whose team defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-20 to advance to Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis.

“I am extremely blessed to be thought of in such a way by my peers,” Carr posted on Twitter. “I understand there is more work to do. There is more to achieve and more to accomplish and I will now rest until we get there, Raider Nation!”

Carr joins Raiders teammates Khalil Mack (defensive end), Rodney Hudson (center), Kelechi Osemele (guard/tackle) and Donald Penn (tackle).

The Pro Bowl will be played Sunday in Orlando, Fla., at Camping World Stadium.

Carr is the third quarterback in franchise history to be named to at least three Pro Bowls, joining Ken Stabler and Rich Gannon, who each earned four selections.

The Raiders were 6-10 this season. In 2016, Oakland went 12-4 and qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2002.

In 2017, Carr started 15 games and completed 323 of 515 passes (62.7 percent) for 3,496 yards. He tossed 22 touchdowns against 13 interceptions for a passer rating of 86.4.

Carr was the winner of the Raiders’ Ed Block Courage Award, which honors players who exemplify commitments to sportsmanship and courage.
