Jon Gruden’s coaching staff coming together, including an ex-Raiders head coach

The Oakland Raiders’ coaching staff is taking shape under Jon Gruden.

The Raiders have already formally announced Greg Olson will be the offensive coordinator, Paul Guenther will be the team's defensive coordinator and Rich Bisaccia will be an assistant head coach/special teams coordinator.

On Saturday, reports surfaced that the Raiders will bring back Tom Cable to be their offensive line coach. The team made it official Thursday with the hiring with Cable, along with 12 assistants.

Cable, who was fired by the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, was head coach in Oakland from 2008-10 after serving as the offensive line coach from 2007-08 under former head coach Lane Kiffin.

As expected, former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett was hired to coach the wide receivers.

Out is defensive line coach and ex-Fresno State standout Jethro Franklin, a holdover from Jack Del Rio’s staff.

Other assistants the Raiders have hired:

Derrick Ansley - defensive backs: He spent the past two seasons coaching defensive backs at Alabama.

Tim Berbenich - quality control, offense: He spent the past five seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, while serving the past two seasons as the team’s offensive assistant/assistant quarterbacks coach.

Nick Holz - quality control, defense: He will return to the Raiders for the seventh season. This past season, he was the team’s assistant wide receivers coach.

David Lippincott - linebackers: Spent the past 10 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and was the assistant linebackers/quality control coach from 2012-17.

Jim O’Neil - senior defensive assistant: This will be his ninth season as an NFL coach after he was the defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016.

Dave Razzano - director of football research: He was an area scout with the Indianapolis Colts, focusing on the West Coast.

Jemal Singleton - running backs: Spent the past two seasons as the running backs coach with the Colts and coached Frank Gore to 1,025 yards in 2016 - the first running back to hit 1,000 yards since 2007.

Frank Smith - tight ends: He spent the past three seasons as the tight ends coach for the Chicago Bears.

Travis Smith - quality control, defense: He will enter his seventh season with the Raiders. He coached the outside linebackers this past season.

Byron Storer - assistant special teams: The Modesto native will enter his fifth year coaching in the NFL - his first with the Raiders. He will will work with Bisaccia for the second time.

Mike Trgovac - defensive line: He spent the past nine seasons as the defensive line coach with the Green Bay Packers. He worked with Gruden from 1995-98 as assistants with the Philadelphia Eagles.
