Grizzlies Report for Aug. 1: Fresno 7, Reno 3

Monday recap – A.J. Reed went 3 for 4 with three runs batted in, including a two-run homer in the top of the first to lead the Fresno Grizzlies to a 7-3 win over Reno at Aces Ballpark. Reed, who was a triple shy of the cycle, has been on a tear since rejoining the Grizzlies on July 23, hitting .436 (17 for 49) with 14 RBI over 11 games. RH Edison Frias (1-1, 6.00 ERA) picked up his first Triple-A win in his second start, holding the Aces to five hits and two runs over six innings. Jon Kemmer knocked a two-run home run in the top of the eighth to extend his hitting streak to 11, the longest active streak on the Grizzlies.

Up next – RH Mike Hauschild (7-9, 3.24) will make his 20th start of the season for the Fresno Grizzlies in Tuesday’s series finale against Reno and a pitcher to be announced later. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. at Aces Ballpark.

Roster moves – RH Joe Musgrove, who was scratched a few hours before his scheduled start Saturday, was called up by parent-club Houston on Monday in place of RH Scott Feldman, who was traded to Toronto. Musgrove is expected to make his MLB debut in the Astros’ series against the Blue Jays, the team that drafted him in 2011 and traded him in 2012. Also, Grizzlies reliever Josh Fields was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Cuban infielder/outfielder Yordan Alvarez. Fields started the season in Houston before making 23 appearances for the Grizzlies out of the bullpen. INF Danny Worth cleared waivers and is back with Fresno after being designated for assignment last week.
