Grizzlies Report for July 18: Fresno 8, Round Rock 1
Monday recap – Tyler White, Alex Bregman and Preston Tucker had three hits each and combined to score seven of the Fresno Grizzlies’ runs in an 8-1 win at Round Rock. White smashed his seventh homer in 10 games, a two-run shot in the eighth inning that extended his club-season-best hit streak to 14 games. Triple-A All-Star Brady Rodgers was pulled from his scheduled start because of an undisclosed injury. RH reliever Brendan McCurry started, throwing two shutout innings. RH Jordan Jankowski got his first win of the season, striking out five in three scoreless innings.
Up next – Fresno sends RH Joe Musgrove (3-3, 4.60) to the mound against Round Rock RH Nick Martinez (6-4, 4.36) on Tuesday at 5:05 p.m. It will be Musgrove’s first start for the Grizzlies since a five-inning no-decision July 6 against Sacramento, though he did open the 2016 Futures Game on July 10 with a 1-2-3 seven-pitch inning for Team USA.
Mr. Closer – Fresno’s James Hoyt picked up his 23rd save Sunday, retiring all four batters he faced. He leads the Pacific Coast League by eight saves, has the best average-against (.149) in the league by 32 points and has struck out 78 in 44 2/3 innings.
