Grizzlies Report for June 19: Tacoma 1, Fresno 0
Blown in extras – Fresno Grizzlies reliever Reymin Guduan issued three straight walks to end the game, including a bases-loaded free pass to Stefen Romero in the bottom of the 12th inning, as the Tacoma Rainiers escaped with a 1-0 victory Sunday. The Grizzlies moved to 1-4-1 in extra-inning games this season. Fresno had seven hits, but runners rarely advanced beyond first base. The Grizzlies batted 0 for 2 with runners in scoring position. Colin Moran and A.J. Reed had two hits each for the Grizzlies. Fresno starting pitcher Mike Hauschild tossed seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts while lowering his ERA to 3.18.
Up next – The Grizzlies will try to pull out a series split Monday, with the first pitch at 6:05 p.m. Fresno LH Tommy Shirley (4-4, 5.36 ERA) will face Tacoma RH Cody Martin (5-4, 5.27), the Dos Palos native who has played in two games in the majors this season. Shirley has struggled in June, posting a 10.13 ERA over three starts and allowing batters to hit .397.
Tyler White debut – Tyler White, who began the season with the parent club Houston Astros, made his Grizzlies returning debut Sunday. He batted 1 for 4 with one strikeout. White was sent back to Triple A after hitting just .211 with seven homers and 20 RBIs in 53 games and 166 at-bats with the Astros.
Having a Fields day – Since being demoted to Fresno, reliever Josh Fields has nine scoreless outings out of 12 appearances. He has a 1.80 ERA with 15 strikeouts to five walks in 15 innings and has held batters to a .154 average. Fields threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit Sunday.
