Grizzlies Report for June 6: El Paso 6, Fresno 2

Recap – El Paso used a five-run sixth inning – highlighted by Jason Hagerty’s two-run home run – to get clear of the Fresno Grizzlies en route to a 6-2 victory Monday night at Chukchansi Park. Grizzlies starter Joe Musgrove was charged with all six runs while striking out five in six innings of work. Grizzlies center fielder Eury Perez drove in both Fresno runs and went 3 for 4 on the evening.

Up next – RH Brady Rodgers (4-3, 3.28 ERA) will try for his fourth win in a row as he leads the Fresno Grizzlies (Tacos) into a Taco Tuesday series finale against El Paso and LH Frank Garces (1-0, 2.97 ERA) at 11:05 a.m. The 25-year-old Rodgers, a third-round pick in the 2012 MLB draft, is coming off his best start of the season as he held Albuquerque to one hit in six innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. His ERA ranks best among Fresno starters and eighth in the PCL. His 58 strikeouts and 1.14 WHIP are third- and fifth-best in the league. Garces will make just his fifth start after 15 relief appearances. Tacos will be sold for $2 during the game. Also available is the Business Person special: a $20 ticket for the Phoenix Club with lunch provided.

Staying home – The Fresno Grizzlies will enjoy a day off Wednesday as the league takes a one-day hiatus. The Grizzlies return to action to close out an eight-game homestand with four games against the Salt Lake Bees, the Los Angeles Angels’ affiliate. The series, which starts at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, is part of Star Wars Weekend at the ballpark.
