Grizzlies Report for April 27: Fresno to open homestand
Up next – Fresno RH Asher Wojciechowski (1-1, 8.25 ERA) faces El Paso RH Craig Reynolds (1-1, 6.75) on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. as the Grizzlies open their second homestand of the 2016 Pacific Coast League season with the first of four against the Chihuahuas. Wojciechowski hasn’t escaped the fourth inning in his past two starts, though in his most recent was betrayed by his defense. The former first-round pick (41st overall by Toronto in 2010) allowed five hits and three walks while being charged with six runs (two earned) in 3 2/3 innings on Friday at Chukchansi Park. The Grizzlies made four errors in the game, managed just three hits and lost 8-1.
Power outage – The Grizzlies, 8-10 in defense of league and Triple-A national titles, are last in the 16-team PCL in slugging at .349. A lineup that features two of the top power bats in the Houston Astros’ system in first basemen/designated hitters Jon Singleton and A.J. Reed is 12th in home runs with 12 and ninth in runs (84) – though those two sluggers have seven of the homers. The pitching staff has yet to get rolling either, ranking 12th with a 4.54 ERA.
Ring giveaway – Saturday’s game vs. El Paso is championship ring giveaway night, with the first 10,000 fans receiving a replica of the Triple-A national championship ring. Authentic rings will be placed at random inside 15 of the boxes.
