Grizzlies Report for April 18: Fresno 4, Las Vegas 3
Monday recap: A.J. Reed hit a two-run homer and finished with three RBIs to power the Fresno Grizzlies in a 4-3 win against the Las Vegas 51s on Monday afternoon before an announced crowd of 4,101 at Chukchansi Park. Danny Worth also added an RBI while batting 3 for 3 with a double. Starting pitcher Mike Hauschild held the 51s to one run off five hits and a walk in seven innings. Jordan Jankowski threw the final 1 2/3 innings for the save.
Up next: The Grizzlies begin a four-game series with the Salt Lake Bees, beginning at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday. Grizzlies LH Tommy Shirley (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is scheduled to face Bees RH Zach Nuding (1-0, 6.52). Last week, the Grizzlies went 2-2 at Salt Lake. Shirley beat the Bees previously after throwing five scoreless innings with three hits allowed. The Bees enter the series with the second-best team ERA in the 16-team Pacific Coast League at 2.29.
Golden sombrero: Grizzlies designated hitter Jon Singleton, who led Fresno with 22 home runs last year, went 0 for 4 and struck out swinging on all four attempts Monday. He’s hitting just .121 with one home run and four RBIs in 33 at-bats.
Also slumping: Reigning PCL MVP Matt Duffy also is struggling out of the gate, finishing 0 for 3 Monday to drop his batting average to .130 in 23 at-bats. He does not have a home run after batting .294 with 20 homers and 104 RBIs a year ago.
