Grizzlies’ Opening Day starter, Chris Devenski, called up to majors
The Grizzlies’ Chris Devenski – the right-hander who pitched Fresno to a victory in the Triple-A National championship a year ago – has been called up to the parent Houston Astros.
Devenski had been scheduled to start the Grizzlies’ Pacific Coast League opener Thursday night at Las Vegas.
Right-hander Brad Peacock, who has four years of major league experience but missed the bulk of last season with a intercostal (rib/back strain), will be the Grizzlies’ starter instead against the 51s.
The Astros also optioned pitcher Michael Feliz to the Grizzlies while pitcher Danny Reynolds was designated for assignment to make room for Devenski.
Devenski spent most of last season in Double-A before pitching for the Grizzlies in the postseason. Making his first Triple-A start in the national title game against the Columbus Clippers, he pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out nine while allowing just one hit in Fresno’s 7-0 victory. He was named MVP of the game.
