Fresno Grizzlies named MiLB’s ‘Best Team’

The Fresno Grizzlies were named “Best Team” throughout Minor League Baseball on Wednesday, based on the MiLBYs awards that are determined by fan votes and the Milb.com staff.

The Grizzlies, who won a Triple-A National championship and a Pacific Coast League title in their first year as a Houston Astros affiliate, were an unanimous selection by both the fans and the Milb.com staff.

In addition, Grizzlies designated hitter/corner infielder Tyler White received the Best Offensive Player of the Year MiLBYs award based on fan votes.

Tyler White was named Best Offensive Player of the Year throughout the minors, based on fan votes. White hit .362 with seven homers and 59 RBIs in 57 games with the Fresno Grizzlies during the regular season.

White, 25, was instrumental in the Grizzlies’ championship march, hitting .362 with seven homers and 59 RBIs in 57 Triple-A games, and boasting a .467 on-base percentage and a 1.026 on-base plus slugging percentage.

For the season, White hit 14 homers with 70 runs and 99 RBIs with a .442 OBP and .939 OPS.

Fellow Astros prospect A.J. Reed, who could be in line to play for the Grizzlies next season, received the same award in a separate vote by the Milb.com staff. Reed hit 34 homers with 127 RBIs for the season, 53 games spent in Class-A and 82 games at Double-A.
