Grizzlies Report: Salt Lake 8, Fresno 5
Grizzlies on Tuesday: The Fresno Grizzlies will hold a brief workout during an off day from games before beginning the Pacific Coast League playoffs. The Grizzlies (84-59) will host the first two games of the best-of-five series against the El Paso Chihuahuas (78-66), who are the San Diego Padres’ Triple-A affiliate. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday with Grizzlies RH Dan Straily (10-9, 4.77 ERA) set to face Chihuahuas RH Daniel McCutchen (9-8, 3.60). The teams went 8-8 during the regular season.
Monday recap: With Fresno manager Tony DeFrancesco giving sluggers Jon Singleton and Matt Duffy the day off in the regular-season finale, the Grizzlies lacked the usual pop and their ideal lineup and fell 8-5 to the Salt Lake Bees before an announced crowd of 6,767 at Chukchansi Park. Jake Buchanan, pitching for the first time since Aug. 31 after he was designated for assignment by the Houston Astros, gave up four runs in one inning for the loss.
