Grizzlies Report for Aug. 24: Iowa 9, Fresno 0

Monday recap: Grizzlies pitcher Dan Straily went from cruising to getting crushed and the Grizzlies bats never got going as Fresno dropped the opener of an eight-game trip 9-0 against the Iowa Cubs. It was only the sixth time the Grizzlies have been shut out this season. Straily opened with three scoreless innings then was touched up for eight runs in the fourth, including a two-run homer by Cubs prospect Javier Baez during his second at-bat of the inning. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, generated just one hit – a single by Alex Presley in the first inning.

Grizzlies on Tuesday: Though they missed their first opportunity to clinch their division Monday, the Grizzlies will get a couple of chances to lock it up on Tuesday, playing a doubleheader against the Iowa Cubs. A Grizzlies win in either of the games or a loss by the Sacramento River Cats would allow Fresno to capture the Pacific Coast League’s Pacific Northern Division. First pitch of game 1 is at 10:08 a.m. with Grizzlies RH Asher Wojciechowski (8-2, 5.15 ERA), who is coming off his cleanest outing in the past two months after throwing six shutout innings, facing Cubs RH Felipe Paulino (4-7, 4.65). The night cap is at 5:08 p.m. with Grizzlies RH Mark Appel (2-2, 4.71) matched against LH Drake Britton (7-8, 5.19).
