Grizzlies Report for August 16: Fresno 4, New Orleans 0
Grizzlies on Monday: RH Dan Straily (9-6, 3.65 ERA), who is the Fresno Grizzlies’ ERA leader among starters, takes the mound against New Orleans Zephyrs LH Travis Blackley (4-6, 5.22). First pitch is 7:05 p.m. Straily has not allowed more than three runs in any of his past seven Triple-A starts and is 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA since the All-Star break. Straily, however, has struggled at Chukchansi Park this year, having gone 5-4 with a 4.73 ERA in nine home starts. Blackley, who pitched briefly for the Grizzlies at the start of the 2012 season, is 2-2 with a 4.94 ERA since the All-Star break and 1-4 with a 5.22 ERA on the road.
Sunday recap: Nolan Fontana broke up a scoreless affair with a two-run double in the seventh and Brady Rodgers struck out seven over six innings as the Fresno Grizzlies prevailed 4-0 against the New Orleans Zephyrs before an announced crowd of 3,036 at Chukchansi Park. Rodgers allowed just two hits and the Grizzlies bullpen of Jordan Jankowski, Tyson Perez and James Hoyt completed the shutout after each threw a perfect inning. Jankowski got the win and moved to 7-3, benefiting from Fontana’s shot to right field with two outs in the seventh. Tony Kemp and Matt Duffy each supplied an RBI in the eighth. The Grizzlies also converted 3 of 4 stolen base attempts.
Stat of the day: 5-1 – The Grizzlies’ record when playing in 100-plus degree weather. Sunday’s starting temperature was 102 degrees.
