Grizzlies Report for Aug. 15: Fresno 6, New Orleans 3

Saturday recap: Jonathan Villar and Robbie Grossman each homered as Fresno amassed 14 hits in beating New Orleans 6-3 before an announced crowd of 9,337 to open an eight-game homestand at Chukchansi Park. The Grizzlies, who have won five straight, moved to 46-15 when getting 10-plus hits. Six of Fresno’s players finished with two hits apiece, including the first four in the batting order (Villar, L.J. Hoes, Matt Duffy and Tyler White). Luis Cruz and Jake Buchanan came out of the bullpen to combine for 4.1 scoreless innings.

Grizzlies on Sunday: Fresno continues its only series against New Orleans this season when the teams meet for game 2 at 6:05 p.m. at Chukchansi Park. Grizzlies RH Brady Rodgers (9-6, 4.78 ERA) faces RH Robert Morey (2-4, 3.50). Rodgers’ up-and-down season is typified by his past four starts – allowing two runs, then eight, then none before giving up seven in his most recent outing. He has been better at home (5-3, with a 4.03 ERA). Morey has allowed four runs in each of his past two starts.

Stat of the day: 3 – The number of former Grizzlies on the Zephyrs roster, with pitchers Travis Blackley (2007, 2012) and Erik Cordier (2014) making their returns, as well as New Orleans hitting coach Damon Minor (2000-04), whose playing career ended in 2006.
