Grizzlies Report for Aug. 10: Off day
Grizzlies on Tuesday: After an off day Monday, RH Dan Straily (8-6, 3.65 ERA), will make his return to Triple-A Fresno after another single start with parent-club Houston. Straily, on a short three days rest, threw 4 2/3 innings in a 4-3 loss to Texas, giving up four earned runs on six hits and three walks to go with three strikeouts. Straily leads the Grizzlies into a four-game series at Albuquerque, with the Isotopes scheduled to start Colorado Rockies’ RH David Hale (0-3, 6.05). He’ll be making his third rehab start for the Isotopes after injuring his groin early last month. First pitch is at 5:35 p.m. The Grizzlies return to Fresno on Saturday to open an eight-game homestand.
Roster moves: RH Asher Wojciechowski was promoted last week to the Astros only to be optioned back to Fresno after throwing just one pitch. He relieved Dallas Keuchel with one on and two outs in the eighth inning of Houston’s 3-1 loss at Oakland on Friday. Wojciechowski’s weapon of choice: a 92-mph four-seam fastball that got Mark Canha to fly out and end the inning.
Magic number: 18 — Any combination of Grizzlies’ wins and losses by second-place Reno, which is 11 1/2-games back in the Pacific Northern Division with 28 games to play, that total 18 and the Grizzlies will clinch the Pacific Northern Division title and advance to the Pacific Coast League playoffs for the first time since 1998.
