Grizzlies Report for July 27: Tacoma 11, Fresno 10

Monday recap: Fresno came back from a six-run deficit in the seventh inning with a seven-run, eight-hit rally for a one-run lead, only to have it washed away on a pair of wild pitches by reliever James Hoyt that allowed two runs to score in the bottom of the eighth as Tacoma escaped with an 11-10 win to steal the series three games to one at Cheney Stadium. The Grizzlies, losers of three straight and seven of their past 10, saw their first-place lead in the Pacific Northern Division shrink to nine games. Tony Kemp snapped his 0-for-24 skid with a bunt single in the second, sparked the seventh-inning rally with a leadoff single and had a two-run triple to cap the seven-run inning.

Grizzlies on Wednesday: After an off day Tuesday, Fresno’s RH Mike Hauschild (4-2, 3.32) will lead the Grizzlies into Reno for the first of three games. The Aces have not announced their starter. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Hauschild will be making his eighth start of the season, after joining Triple-A Fresno from Double-A Corpus Christi in mid-June, and is coming off back-to-back quality starts. He most recently struck out eight in seven innings, while giving up one earned run and three hits in a 12-4 win at Las Vegas on July 22.

Stat of the day - 3: Home runs for the Rainiers’ Jabari Blash against the Grizzlies this series. Blash connected for a three-run homer in the bottom of the first that put the Rainiers in front 5-2 Sunday. He also homered in each of the team’s two previous wins, including a solo walk-off winner in Tacoma’s 8-7 victory Saturday. Blash finished 6 for 16 with seven RBIs in four games against Fresno.
