Grizzlies Report: Tacoma 12, Fresno 5
Monday lookahead: Fresno RH Brady Rodgers (8-5, 4.26 ERA) will face LH Roenis Elias (3-0, 6.14) when the Grizzlies close out the series in Tacoma at 11:35 a.m. Rodgers has consistently improved in his first full season at the Triple-A level, holding opponents to a .253 batting average while going 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in three starts in July. The Grizzlies have an off day Tuesday before ending their 12-day, 11-game road trip with a three-game series in Reno.
Sunday recap: The Grizzlies jumped to a three-run lead in the third but the Rainiers quickly washed it away on Carlos Rivero’s three-run homer in the fourth and Jabari Blash’s two-run shot in the sixth en route to a 12-5 win. The win clinched the season series 9-6 in favor of Tacoma. Fresno starter Brett Oberholtzer (3-3, 5.87) was pummeled for seven runs (all earned) on seven hits in five innings. He pitched to two batters in the sixth before being chased off the mound after Blash’s go-ahead home run. Blash was a weekend buzzkill for Fresno, lifting the Rainiers to an 8-7 win Saturday on a walk-off solo homer.
White fire: Designated hitter Tyler White had two doubles Sunday to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. The 24-year-old is hitting .416 with 10 doubles and two home runs in 19 games since joining Triple-A Fresno from Double-A Corpus Christi on July 2.
Stat of the day: 9 — number of pitches Grizzlies RH Jordan Jankowski needed to strike out the side in his inning of relief against the Rainiers. Jankowski replaced Jose Veras to start the eighth inning and took down Stefen Romero, Jesus Montero and Leon Landry all swinging.
