Grizzlies Report for July 11: Fresno 7, Sacramento 3
Saturday recap: Jonathan Villar hit a two-out, two-run double to cap a three-run sixth as Fresno broke open a close game and went on to a 7-3 victory over Sacramento at Raley Field. Brady Rodgers (8-4) improved his team-leading victory total as the Grizzlies pushed their Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern Division lead to eight games over Tacoma. Sacramento, a perennial title contender in recent seasons as an Oakland A’s affiliate but struggling in its first year as a San Francisco Giants farm club, fell to 13 games back despite three solo home runs by Adam Duvall. He struck out to end the game, but now leads the PCL with 20 homers — two ahead of Reno’s Jamie Romak.
Grizzlies on Sunday: Fresno RH Mike Hauschild (2-2, 4.05 ERA) makes his sixth start since being promoted from Double-A as the Grizzlies close out the five-game series in Sacramento at 1:05 p.m. and head into the Triple-A All-Star break. He will face RH Tommy Hanson (0-1, 4.50). Hauschild is coming off his worst outing, tagged for six runs in an 8-7 loss to Tacoma on July 7. Hauschild is holding batters to a .161 average on the road and .158 in day games.
Roster shuffle: RH Mark Appel and infielder Tony Kemp (both at the All-Star Futures Game today in Cincinnati) are on the temporary inactive list. LH Brett Oberholtzer was sent back to the Grizzlies after a spot start with parent club Houston.
Stat of the day: 39 — league-high on-base streak for Grizzlies LF Domingo Santana through Saturday. He wrapped the run around last month’s call-up to the Astros, extending it in five games since his return. The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, who made his Major League debut on July 1, 2014, was ranked the No. 71 overall prospect by MLB.com entering this season. Santana is hitting .312 with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs.
