Grizzlies Report for July 4: Fresno 10, Tacoma 3
Saturday recap: Down three after the top of the first, the Grizzlies steadily rallied and a two-run single from Tyler Heineman helped spark a six-run sixth as Fresno beat Tacoma 10-3 before a sellout crowd of 12,589 on a July Fourth fireworks night. Tony Kemp hit a three-run home run, his second homer since joining the Grizzlies last month and first over-the-wall blast. Kemp went the inside-the-park route June 16 at Sacramento. The Grizzlies finished with 16 hits and scored double-digit runs for the 12th time this season. Starting pitcher Brett Oberholtzer (2-2), recently demoted by major league parent club Houston, gave up six hits and three runs and walked two in six innings.
Grizzlies on Sunday: Fresno LH Luis Cruz (4-3, 4.32 ERA) gets the challenge of facing Tacoma RH Forrest Snow (7-4, 2.24), the Pacific Coast League ERA leader among pitchers still in the minors. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. at Chukchansi Park. The 6-foot-6 Snow has primarily been a starter but has done some bullpen work, too. He has allowed no more than two runs in 17 of 18 outings, 11 as a starter. In the rotation, Snow is 5-3 with a 1.99 ERA and 46 strikeouts to 19 walks in 58.2 innings.
Santana returning: OF Domingo Santana was optioned back to Fresno after Houston activated Jake Marisnick from the disabled list. Santana has 72 hours to report. The 22-year-old hit .256 (10 for 39) with two homers and eight RBIs in 14 games with the Astros. At Triple-A, he is hitting .320 with 11 homers and 38 RBIs in 56 games.
Stat of the day: 30-3 — Grizzies’ record when outhitting opponents, after getting 16 to Tacoma’s eight on Saturday.
