Grizzlies Report for May 29: Oklahoma City 2, Fresno 1

Grizzlies on Saturday: Fresno RH Dan Straily (3-3, 4.25 ERA), hit around a bit this season but minimizing the damage in part by displaying some of the best control of his career, faces 2010 first-round pick Deck McGuire (1-0, 1.35 in one start) as the Grizzlies and Oklahoma City play game 2 of a four-game series at 5:05 p.m. Straily has allowed 59 hits in 42.1 innings but with only 10 walks. He’s allowing a minor league career-low 2.1 base on balls per nine innings while striking out batters at a career-low rate of 6.6. McGuire was drafted No. 11 overall by Toronto out of the Georgia Institute of Technology, but in the past couple of seasons bounced to first the Oakland and now the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. He is 36-45 with a 4.60 ERA in his career, but appeared to find himself a bit in Double-A to start this season, going 4-2 with a 2.72 ERA in seven starts.

Friday rewind: Andy Wilkins opened the bottom of the ninth inning with a double and scored on Brian Ward’s single, lifting Oklahoma City over Fresno 2-1 in the series opener. The Grizzlies had tied it in the eighth on Matt Dominguez’s third homer of 2015. Fresno starter Tommy Shirley pitched six shutout innings.

Stat of the day: 54 — the Grizzlies’ Pacific Coast League leading home run total entering Friday, which helped them rank second in runs (264 to Las Vegas’ 278) despite the 16-team league’s 11th-best average.
