Grizzlies Report for May 19: Fresno 12, El Paso 2

Grizzlies on Wednesday: Fresno and the rest of the Pacific Coast League take the day off, with the Grizzlies heading home from a 6-2 road trip before launching an eight-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. Thursday with the first of four against Nashville. The Sounds, in their first year as Oakland’s Triple-A affiliate, are scheduled to send ex-A’s and San Francisco Giants lefty Barry Zito (1-3, 4.84 ERA) to the mound against Fresno LH Luis Cruz (0-2, 5.40). Nashville’s roster also includes former Clovis High star RH Ryan Cook (2-1, 2.25).

Tuesday rewind: Domingo Santana hit two of his team’s six home runs as the Grizzlies, bouncing back from Monday’s 15-9 loss, completed a series victory with a 12-2 win at El Paso. Santana hit a two-run blast in the first and L.J. Hoes homered to start the third in support of a combined six-hitter by Asher Wojciechowski (2-0), Richard Rodriguez and Jason Stoffel. El Paso LH Robbie Erlin suffered his second loss in 12 days to Fresno.

Stat of the day: .373 — Singleton’s average as the cleanup hitter (19 for 51). Tuesday’s homers were his first batting fourth, but 10 of his 25 RBIs have come in that slot.
