Grizzlies’ Jon Singleton named PCL player of week
Fresno Grizzlies first baseman Jon Singleton on Monday was named the Pacific Coast League player of the week.
Singleton, drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the eighth round in 2009, produced a league-high 23 RBIs in seven games last week to become the first PCL player in a decade to drive in 20-plus runs in a week.
He also hit five home runs, three with the bases loaded.
He set a club record Wednesday in a 17-6 win at Albuquerque with 10 RBIs, which is one RBI shy of the league’s modern-era record.
Singleton is hitting .263 and leads the league in home runs (12) and RBIs (40).
