Grizzlies report for Sept. 4: Fresno 5, Sacramento 4

Sunday recap – This time, it was the Grizzlies’ turn to come from behind in a big way. Jon Singleton’s grand slam with two out in the eighth inning erased a 4-1 River Kings lead, and Fresno relievers took over from there for a 5-4 win at Raley Field in the next-to-last game of the season. Trailing 4-1, Colin Moran and Danny Worth singled and Alejandro Garcia was hit by a pitch. Facing the River Kings’ Jean Machi (4-3) with two out, Singleton hit his 20th home run of the year to give the Grizzlies a 5-4 lead. Reymin Guduan (2-3) and Jordan Jankowski held the River Cats scoreless the rest of the way, with Jankowski striking out four of the six batters he faced for his fifth save.

Up next – The Fresno Grizzlies will put a bow on the 2016 season Monday in the finale at Raley Field against the Sacramento River Cats. Right-hander Jankowski (2-3, 3.77 ERA) was scheduled to take the hill for the Grizzlies, opposing Sacramento righty Joan Gregorio (6-8, 5.45 ERA). The Grizzlies (71-71-1) secured their first back-to-back winning seasons since 1998-99 with Sunday’s win.
