Edison put on a come-from-behind win Thursday night at Sunnyside Stadium, scoring two touchdowns in the last 3 minutes of the game for a 29-28 victory over Garza in a County/Metro Athletic Conference game.

Tigers coach Johnny Sears Jr. said forget about overtime. He was going for the game-winning two-point conversion.

Kingston Johnson completed a pass to Jharon Biddix for the two-point conversion that proved to be the game-winner.

“We’ve been learning how to practice and play winning football the ET way,” Sears said. “We managed to put all three phases together in one game, and we were able to do that tonight.”

Edison had defeated Templeton in the season opener, but the Central Section Office took away the Tigers’ win because of an ineligible player.

The Tigers had to endure losses after the forfeit, but Sears players weren’t going to let that affect them for the rest of the season. Edison was in games, such as losses to CMAC foes like Madera (34-26) and Sanger (36-27).

The Tigers (1-8 overall, 1-3 CMAC) finally got the win they were looking for.

“My team showed toughness and resilience,” Sears said. “In the times we needed the most.”

Sanger clinches tie for CMAC title

Whenever Madera scores a touchdown, Sanger would always answer.

Kendale McGrew rushed for three touchdowns to lead the Apaches to a 46-28 victory over Madera, clinching a tie for the County/Metro Athletic Conference title.

It wasn’t easy for the Apaches, who had to withstand Madera’s response after a touchdown.

On at least three occasions, Madera would score, but Sanger would seemingly answer.

The Coyotes scored a touchdown to cut the Apaches’ lead to 31-28. Sanger would score the next 15 points to put the game away for good.

Sanger can clinch an outright CMAC title with a win over San Joaquin Memorial at Tom Flores Stadium.

Washington Union loses big lead

Central Valley Christian didn’t quit.

Down 17-0, the Cavaliers rallied by scoring 21 unanswered points for a 21-17 victory, shocking the Panthers.

Shondel Hogan scored on a 19-yard run with 9 minutes remaining in the game that gave CVC the lead.

The Panthers had chances, yet came up short.

Washington Union had the ball at CVC’s 10-yard line but couldn’t find the end zone and turned the ball over on downs.
