For the second straight week a Madera High football player is The Fresno Bee Player of the Week.

This time it is quarterback Elias Mena.

For his part, Mena did damage for the Coyotes when he threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Coyotes to a 42-28 victory over Paso Robles in Week 3.

Mena finished ahead of quarterbacks Jelani Dippel of Cental East and Tyler Franklin of Bullard.

Nonetheless, Mena said getting the honor is big for him since his junior varsity season was cut short because of an injury.

“It really shows my dedication and my hard work in the offseason,” he said. “The program helping put us on the map, and it shows our winning standard for our second week for winning this.”

For the season, Mena has thrown 10 touchdowns against one interception. He also has 106 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

In Week 2, Madera running back Anthony Estrada won the poll.
