- Washington Union's defense sealed a 29-25 victory over Garza on Thursday
Oh so close for The Bee’s top-ranked Clovis East against Grant-Sacramento on Friday night.
There were minutes away from coming away with a tough win, but the Pacers managed to string a long drive, capped by a touchdown reception for a 20-15 victory.
The Timberwolves did get the ball back, but with 10 seconds remaining but couldn’t come up with a miracle.
Yet, Timberwolves coach George Petrissans came away proud of how his players played.
“It confirmed how wonderful these players are,” he said. “These guys are super competitive and their passion to win was incredible. We just came up short.”
Indeed short, but the Timberwolves came away looking impressive. Clovis East will look to get back on the win column when it faces Lemoore at 7 p.m. Sept. 19.
No. 2 Central East 55, Edison-Stockton 17
The Bengals were a handful for the Vikings.
A combination of QB Jelani Dippel, RB Brandon Smith and WR Bayon Harris was the reason.
Dippel passed for three touchdowns and Brandon Smith ran the ball 11 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns to run past Edison.
As for Harris, he finished with six receptions for 131 yards and three touchdowns.
No. 11 Clovis 41, Los Gatos 40
It was a wild game at Lamonica Stadium.
And entertaining for fans.
Quarterback Deagan Rose threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Young with 3 minutes remaining for a 39-34 lead. But the Cougars weren’t done when Rose converted a two-point conversion to Israel Briggs.
The Cats weren’t done and responded in a big way, scoring on a 90-yard pass from Callum Schweitzer to Max Thomas.
Los Gatos attempted a two-point try and failed when the Cougars’ James Curoso made a play on Schweitzer as he blitzed.
Rose finished with five touchdowns and Young had three receiving touchdowns and one kickoff return for a touchdown.
“Los Gatos is a really good football program, Top 50 in the state and well coached,” Clovis coach Aaron Wilkins said.
“We definitely escaped.”
No. 8 Bakersfield 32, No. 6 Bullard 14
The Knights had the lead twice.
Bullard, however, couldn’t hold on to the lead as the Drillers made adjustments and scored touchdowns in opportune time.
Bakersfield put the game away for good in the fourth quarter and outscored the Knights 16-0 in the second half.
Washington Union 29, No. 19 Garza 25 (Thursday)
The Washington Union football team could be a problem in the Tri-County Conference.
The Panthers flexed their muscles at Koligian Stadium on Thursday night.
It was the defense that preserved the victory.
The Guardians were moving the ball and were in Panthers territory when the ball was deflected and picked off by Alexander Guyton.
McKinley Williams completed 18 of 25 for 298 yards and two touchdowns.
Davien Potts had six receptions for 93 yards and a TD.
Much better results for The Bee
In Week 4, The Bee went 7-1 with the lone loss coming Thursday when Garza lost to Washington Union 29-25.
The Bee correctly picked Roosevelt, Immanuel, Clovis North, Sanger, Selma, Redwood and Minarets to win its games.
The Bee improves its record to 22-11.
