Roosevelt routed Firebaugh 46-6 in The Fresno Bee Game of the Week Friday night.
Coach Ricky McCoy emphasizes character growth and field discipline in 2025.
Quarterback CJ Barker and RB Ehis Idoni anchor Roosevelt’s high-powered offense.
Since taking over as the Roosevelt High football coach, Ricky McCoy wanted to create an identity.
That means being relentless and playing hard.
His Roosevelt team is rising to the challenge.
The Rough Riders (3-0) rolled to a 46-6 victory over Firebaugh in The Fresno Bee Game of the Week Friday night at Sunnyside Stadium.
“There’s a lot of growth,” said the former University of Washington and Fresno State standout. “There’s a lot of growth here in terms of character, and that was the biggest thing. Everybody knows the kind of stigma in games like this tends to get a little chippy. I’m proud of my guys being able to take a step back. That’s where we’re growing the most. Everything on the field. We got athletes at every position.”

McCoy was named the head coach in early 2024.
Roosevelt figures to be a contender for the North Yosemite League title behind senior quarterback CJ Barker and sophomore running back Ehis Idoni.
Idoni is a big part of Roosevelt’s offense, if last season’s stats is any indication. He ran for 18 touchdowns, but he is getting help from Barker, who threw for 12 TDs in 2024.
Both are already showing how instrumental they are by picking up where they left off.
For now, the Rough Riders will enjoy the win for the weekend and will get ready for NYL play next week against Sanger West at Tom Flores Stadium, in a possible trap game. The week after, Roosevelt will face McLane in a NYL showdown on Oct. 9.
