  • Jordan Crisp accounted for seven touchdowns to lead Tulare Union over Redwood
  • Garza secured a last-second rushing touchdown to beat Kerman 29-27

Just a sophomore, JJ Howard continues to shine for Clovis West.

It is probably not a surprise given that he has many Division I offers, including from the hometown Fresno State Bulldogs.

Listed at 6-foot-2, Howard helped The Bee’s sixth-ranked Golden Eagles to a 23-13 victory over Edison-Stockton when he finished with a pair of touchdown passes Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

His touchdown throws went to Relando Jefferson for 15 yards and to Dominic Tafoya for 10 yards in the second quarter for a 13-0 lead.

Clovis West sealed its scoring when Tytus Dimmer returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown.

After starting the season 0-1, Clovis West has won two straight with Howard throwing seven touchdowns prior to Friday’s game.

According to 247 Sports, Howard has offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Brigham Young, Miami, Oregon, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego State and Utah.

Howard and the Golden Eagles host Edison on Sept. 12.

Garza 29, Kerman 27

Garza had a 20-6 lead, but Kerman rallied to take a 26-23 lead on Adrian Torres’ 15-yard pass to Jorge Antunez.

The Guardians, however, were not done.

Garza scored on a rushing touchdown as time expired.

Tulare Union 49, Redwood 42

Jordan Crisp threw for 464 yards and five touchdowns, and rushed for two more, including the game-winner with 33 seconds remaining to lead the Tribe to its third straight victory.

Brayden Stevenson caught 11 passes for 274 yards and three TDs, and sealed the win with an interception on the Tribe 5-yard line on the game’s last play.

Rashawn Hayes rushed for 148 yards for Tulare, while Demaje Riley caught six passes for 117 yards.

Jimmie Burk led Redwod with 22 carries for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Oliver Richardson caught two TD passes.

Kickers Alex Rodriguez of the Tribe and Josgar Guerrero of the Rangers converted on all 13 extra points.

Tulare Union gained 602 yards and Redwood 475, in the nearly three-hour game at Bob Mathias Stadium.

Bad showing for The Bee

There will be weeks like this.

The Bee finished Week 3 with a dreadful 3-5 record.

The Bee is picking no gimmes, and this week proved that.

The games lost were Fowler falling to Sanger West 33-25, Reedley losing to Orosi 27-7, Lindsay falling to Exeter 12-7 and Kerman losing to Garza 29-27 — along with Dinuba pulling out a huge win in Kingsburg, 21-16.

The wins came at expense of Bullard, Tulare Union and Clovis East. For the season, The Bee is 15-10.
